Description

U.S. Navy WWI Period "Big Eye" Ship's Bridge Binoculars. Functional and beautiful, these large bridge binoculars measure 58" from the base of the pedestal to the top of the mount and approximately 37" from eyepiece to objective lens. They are constructed of polished steel with brass lens shields and adjustments. The pedestal is marked "A21 BU 321-5-1 USN". Though unweighed, this large example would easily weigh 400-450 pounds. The traversing mechanism, elevation control and focus adjustments are all operable. The optics are generally clear, albeit a bit dusty, and easily cleaned to sharpen them up. A nice example. Property from the Estate of John R. Eckel, Sr. For more information on this estate, please view the article "An Antique Love Story".
