Description

"President Lincoln and His Son Thaddeus"

Abraham Lincoln Albumen Titled "President Lincoln and His Son Thaddeus". The albumen is 6.25" x 8.25" on a titled mount measuring 10" x 13.5". Published by G. F. Bouve & Company of Boston. A variant of Meserve O-114, taken by Alexander Gardner in Washington, D.C. on February 5, 1865. This version adds a studio backdrop and proved more popular than the original. Beneath the title, the caption reads: "The last Photograph the President sat for."

Condition: Albumen retains good detail, with a few stray spots. Mount has been trimmed at right, and is a bit narrower at top; with toning and lights soiling. Lower left corner is dinged resulting in a bit of loss. Crease at top left, more visible on verso. Previous dealer's notations in pencil on verso.
