Ulysses S. Grant: Three Stereoviews Taken While on Campaign in Virginia. The first, a Mathew Brady photograph taken at City Point, Virginia, in June 1864, is one of the more iconic images of Gen. Grant, leaning against a tree with his right arm, his left resting on his hip. Negative number 4011. The second, another Brady image, shows the general sitting on a wooden bench outside of his tent somewhere in Virginia, a cigar in his left hand, papers in his right. Negative number 2427. The final image, taken at his headquarters in Cold Harbor, Virginia, on June 14, 1864, shows Grant sitting in a chair outside of his tent with his chief of staff, Gen. John A. Rawlins (1831-1869). Lt. Col. Theodore S. Bowers (1832-1866), Grant's adjutant general, stands between and behind the men. Negative number 2428. Each mount measures 7" x 3.25" and is labeled "Photographic History / The War For the Union." Backstamp of E. & H. T. Anthony & Co. on the verso. All are in generally fine condition.
