Description

U.S. Constitution Signer Pierce Butler Document Signed. One page, 7 5/8 x 2 3/8 inches; Office of Discount and Deposit, Charleston, South Carolina; February 20, 1800. Receipt documenting "P. Butler has payd into this office Two Hundred Dollars which is pass'd to the credit of the Cashier of the Bank of the United States." Endorsed on verso, "P. Butler" and countersigned by Thomas Butler below. Additionally signed by Josiah Smith as cashier on recto.

Condition: Light, even toning with flattened folds. Small area of loss at left margin from wax seal, with some remnants still present. Bottom margin is trimmed, just touching the paraph of Smith's signature.
