Description

Abraham Lincoln Signature on a slip, 4 x 1 ¼ inches, no place, no date. Signed, "Abraham Lincoln." Accompanied by a letter transmitting the signature from J.W. Marshall, First Assistant Postmaster General, on Post Office Department letterhead dated July 2, 1870. The letter reads, in part, "Having learned through Miss Baird that your daughter Maggie wished an autograph of our late President Lincoln I have looked up one and enclose it. Please give it to her with my best wishes." Marshall was appointed to his position by President Ulysses S. Grant and served until 1874 when he was promoted to U.S. Postmaster-General.

Condition: Very light toning to the left margin with light staining on verso, not affecting the Lincoln signature.
