With a career spanning over seven decades, actress Dame Julie Andrews has starred in numerous iconic films throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She first rose to prominence as a theatre actress and made her Broadway debut at only nineteen years old with her performance in The Boy Friend. Dubbed "Britain's youngest prima donna," Andrews appeared regularly on Broadway throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. Her first feature film, the revered 1964 rendition of Walt Disney's Mary Poppins, gave her the Academy Award for Best Actress. For the next forty years, Andrews starred in a number of blockbusters including Victor/Victoria, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries. In addition to her award-winning films, Dame Julie Andrews has built a successful career as an author. Alongside her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, Andrews has written over twenty children's books, two of which have become New York Times bestsellers.

Andrews owned this typewriter during the mid-1960s, arguably the golden age of her acting career. Within five years after purchasing it, Andrews starred in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, The Americanization of Emily, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. This lot is accompanied by the original purchase receipt for this very typewriter, a photograph of the typewriter signed by Andrews, and related ephemera.
