Description
Taft & Sherman and Bryan & Kern: Two Great Mechanical Pinback Badges from the 1908 Campaign. The portraits pulled into place behind the colorful shield bearing an image of the White House and the slogan "My Choice," and sprang into view only when released. Virtually all known examples of these designs were found in a bag stuck behind a ceiling heating pipe in an Indianapolis basement. Most examples suffered from condition issues, some relatively severe. The present Bryan & Kern example is perhaps the cleanest we have ever seen. The Taft & Sherman is also quite presentable, and despite some scratches on the portraits from opening and closing it, has a nice display appearance. Each measures 2.25" in width by just under 2" in height.Auction Info
