Description
James K. Polk Signed Appointment. One partly printed page of vellum, 16.25" x 11.25", Washington, D.C.; February 24, 1847. Polk appoints "William H. Brian, of Georgetown...a Justice of the Peace, in the county of Washington, in the District of Columbia...This Commission to continue in force, for the term of five years from the day of the date hereof."Signed "James K. Polk" as President. Co-signed by James Buchanan as Secretary of State. Blind embossed paper seal is intact. Docketing on verso.
Condition: Flattened folds, with some light toning and foxing at the edges. Some soiling at the corners. Minor chipping and small tears at the edges, else good.
