FIRST TRADE EDITION, FIRST PRINTING without the legal disclaimer on page [x]. Octavo. Publisher's black cloth, gold paper labels, printed in black, to the spine and the upper board. First issue illustrated dust jacket with the correct price and the misprint "Katharine Barclay" on the front flap.

Condition: Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine just pushed, light ring dampstain to the lower board. Cream endpapers; light scattered thumbsoiling, penciled bookseller notations (some effaced) to the front endpapers, bookseller's ticket to the rear pastedown. Internally clean and tight; light scattered soiling chiefly to gutters and edges, text block edges with minor wear, top edge darkened. Dust jacket unclipped ($2.50); minor edgewear, chipping to head of spine and corners with some losses, 18 x 4 mm open tear to the bottom edge of the back panel, spine sunned, somewhat rubbed, light scattered soiling, light ring dampstain to the back panel.
