Description

Superb Gem Uncirculated Example

Apollo 13 Flown MS69 NGC Sterling Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 296, Originally from The Potter-Aldrin Family Collection, CAG Certified.

A stunning 32mm sterling silver medal. Due to the last-minute substitution of Swigert for Mattingly and the problems that prohibited Apollo 13 from accomplishing its mission, all of the original flown medallions were melted down. This is one of 404 newly-designed sterling silver medallions that were struck from the flown metal. The design features the mission insignia depicting the name of the mission, three of Apollo's chariot horses flying toward the Moon, and the slogan "Ex Luna, Scientia" ("from the moon, knowledge"). The reverse features the names of the crewmembers, the modules, Aquarius (lunar) and Odyssey (command), the engraved dates of launch and return, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks.

Condition: A beautiful Superb Gem Uncirculated medal; it would be difficult to imagine a nicer example, tied for the highest-grade Heritage has offered. Sealed in a numbered archival holder, CAG 2110694-010.

Provenance: Originally from the collection of Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin and given given to his sister Fay Ann Potter.
