Description
H. G. Wells. The Invisible Man: A Grotesque Romance. London: C. Arthur Pearson Limited, 1897.8vo. Title page printed in orange and black; 2 pp. publisher's advertisements at end. Original pictorial red cloth, stamped in black on front cover, lettered in gilt on upper cover and spine.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE, with first page numbered "2." The Invisible Man, a landmark of science fiction, was first serialized in Pearson's Weekly in 1897, and has been the basis for numerous film, television, and radio adaptations.
Condition: Spine slightly faded; minor rubbing to spine ends and joints; touch of fading near head of front cover; corners bumped; very slight soiling and rubbing to covers; hinges cracked; some even toning to endpapers and text block, as usual.
