Description

J. D. Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1951. First edition. Octavo. [2, blank], [vi], 277, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, in original second-state dust jacket with space above Salinger's head just barely visible along the top edge and $3.00 price on front flap registered slightly further right. Boards somewhat soiled, with an occasional small blemish. Small pink mark on bottom edge of text block, possibly a remainder mark; front endpaper and preliminary leaves a bit discolored with some reddish spotting, first gathering with shallow divot in top and bottom margins. Dust jacket faintly darkened, slightly more so at spine panel and flaps near folds; crown lightly chipped with some additional minor paper loss at corners. Very good.
