First edition, possible mixed issue with 371 pages as the first issue but including the Index and "First Edition" on title page as Jenkin's issue A. 12mo. 371, [1] pages, pages 11-14 bound before page [3]. Modern binding of full brick-colored leather, ruled, spine with four raised bands and three leather spine labels stamped in black. Marbled endpapers, added flyleaves, all edges trimmed.

"The first attempt at an encyclopedia of Texas, this work contains a wealth of still-useful material... DeCordova did some of the first genuine scholarly research ever done in Texas while compiling the book, interviewing leading men, researching newspaper files, searching county court records, and striving for pinpoint accuracy," (Jenkins).

Condition: Text block toned with scattered foxing and some staining. Reinforcements and repairs to tears and brittle edges, some chips. Good.
