8vo. Illustrated frontispiece and black and white plates throughout. Publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to the front cover and spine.

FIRST BOOK EDITION, first printed serially in The Graphic (1898-99). LARRY MCMURTRY'S COPY, with his personal bookplate with a sole image of a horseshoe-shaped brand - the cattle brand used by his father and grandfather on their ranch, tipped to the front pastedown.

Condition: Spine sunned; light edgewear to spine ends and corners; some minor soiling; textblock slightly shifted with preliminaries loosened.
