Bill Naughton. Alfie. [London:] MacGibbon & Kee, [1966]. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Michael Caine to the title page, "Best Wishes / Howard / Michael Caine." Octavo. 208 pages. Publisher's dark brown cloth, spine stamped in gilt; original illustrated dust jacket. White endpapers; penciled bookseller's notations (some effaced) to the front free endpaper recto. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed; text block edges toned with minor foxing. Dust jacket unclipped (25s); minor edgewear, head and foot of spine and corners somewhat worn, spine lightly sunned. Near fine.Source material for the 1966 British film, for which Bill Naughton also wrote the screenplay, starring Michael Caine in the title role. The film was nominated heavily at the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and British Academy Film awards and has since received both sequel and reboot treatments.
