More Information: Charles Dickens. A Child's History of England. London: Bradbury & Evans, 1852-54. First edition. Three volumes, small octavo. x, [2], 210, [2]; viii, 214, [2]; viii, 321, [3] pages. Inserted frontispiece in each volume, all by F. W. Topham. Publisher's original pinkish-violet boards; front and back stamped in blind, with gilt vignette of mother and child reading on front; spine stamped in gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges trimmed and marbled. Each volume with custom red cloth chemise, housed in own one-quarter red morocco slipcase with spine stamped in gilt. Spines and top edges of bindings faded to light brown; fainter fading to hinges; rubbing to edges, hinges, bases and tops of spines; milder rubbing to boards; some light spots of splashing. Some loosening of sewing, narrow cracks at backing. Occasional pencil marks, unfolded dog-ears, and spots of foxing throughout text. Second volume back, third volume front endpapers cracked at inner hinge. Third volume frontispiece detached but completely intact. Shelf wear at extremities of chemises and slipcases, some dust soiling to top edge. Former owner bookplate on each front pastedown; inscription of different owner on each half-title, dated 1852-53.
