8vo. Publisher's blue cloth, stamped in blind, spine stamped in gilt. Original printed dust jacket.

FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on front flyleaf with seven lines of text, signed and dated: "Wallace Stevens / Feb. 1, 1943."

Only 1,000 copies of the first printing were produced.

Wilbur Chapman Goodson (1909-1988) appears to have been a minor poet. We can trace a single volume of poetry published by Goodson titled Dark Music. He corresponded with other contemporary poets, including E.E. Cummings and Robert Frost. In The Letters of Robert Frost, Goodson is described as "a poultryman then living in Tamworth, New Hampshire."

Condition: Minor edgewear. Dust jacket unclipped ($2.00), toned, with a few scattered stains.
