Publisher's red cloth with gilt spine titles. Top edge stained red. Original dust jacket priced "21s net". [and:] The Return of the King. London: George Allen & Unwin, 1955. First edition, one of 7,000 of the first printed copies, variant three with signature mark '4' present on page forty-nine and lines 'sagging' in the middle, originally designated as first state by Hammond/Anderson, later corrected by Wayne Hammond [The Tolkien Collector, Issue 11], in a second state dust jacket with reviewer comments to first two titles on back-flap, Octavo. 416 pages, folding map tipped to rear free endpaper. Publisher's red cloth with gilt spine titles. Top edge stained red. Original dust jacket priced "21s net".A touch of rubbing on jackets, spine panels sunned. Two Towers has small dent on lower right corner of rear cover, pp. 351-352 shorter at the fore-edge and the sheet seems to be "bunched up" a bit at the gutter, likely due to binder's error. A beautiful set of the classic fantasy trilogy, housed together in gray morocco clamshell case, with edges splitting on case.
