Description

Carl of Solms-Braunfels Letter Signed, "Charles Prince of Solms". One page, 7.5" x 6.5", April 25, 1845, "Carmall [Comal] Creek", Republic of Texas. In the letter, the Prince writes of his German association entering into an exclusive agreement for transportation should steamboat service be instituted "from Dick[inson] Point to Victoria". In part: "I do not hesitate to pay if there should be a Steam Boat Running - from Dick[inson] Point to Victoria that the German association will for the future do all their transportation in that channel, provided the expenses should not be greater than to transport by land." This letter was written and signed three weeks before Prince Carl returned to Europe, ending his 319-day stay in Texas as general commissioner of the Verein zum Schutze deutscher Einwanderer in Texas (Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas).
