12mo (159 x 89 mm). Half-title, 3 pp. publisher's advertisements at end, with initial and final blanks present. Contemporary English mottled calf, gilt-panelled on covers, spine compartments gilt-ruled and decorated, board edges gilt; half morocco slipcase.

VERY RARE FIRST EDITION, with the scarce half-title. This copy one of the few copies printed on thick paper, presumably for presentation by the author's daughter. Christian Morals was written by Sir Thomas Browne during his later years and was, according to his daughter, to be his last work. "The first edition of Christian Morals is an attractive and uncommon book" (Keynes).

Condition: Rebacked preserving original spine; corners repaired; some wear at edges; covers a bit rubbed; upper cover with a few old cut marks. Name deleted in ink at head of title; some light spotting and browning throughout.
