Description

[Texas Rangers]. Frontier Battalion Company "D" at Mealtime Boudoir Card, circa 1888. A sepia toned albumen of ten Company "D" Texas Rangers, including Captain Frank Jones, sharing a meal in their camp on Savage Ranch, near Realitos in far South Texas. At the far right of the photograph is the company's Chinese cook, wearing a queue down. Pots and pans litter the scene. Note on verso reads, "Capt Jones / Ranger Company in camp at Savage Ranch near Realitos in Duval Co March 1888." With ownership stamp of Joseph Walter Durbin, "J.W. Durbin." Light bumping to corners of mount, and a previous collector has written his name on the verso in modern ink. The inclusion of the Chinese cooks makes this image exceptionally scarce. Provenance: Durbin Family, George Jackson Collection.
