Description

Civil War: A Pair of Pro-Confederacy Currier and Ives Cartoons. A naval related satire 13.5" x 17" titled, "Blockade on the "Connecticut Plan"" ridicules the governments inadequate and outdated Union fleet. While the other cartoon 12" x 15.5" titled, "Distinguished Militia Genl. During An Action" illustrates a Union general consulting a military tactics manual in the midst of battle. Soldiers are lying dead all around his horse yet he exclaims that his last order appears not to have succeeded, so "the next is to retreat."

Condition: Both prints in clean bright condition. Pencil notation under the General on horseback in "Distinguished Militia" reads, "General Pierce at Great Bethel, VA".
