Description
Daily Constitutionalist (Augusta, GA.): Coverage of the Fall of Richmond and Petersburg, April 20, 1865. 13.25" x 20.5, 4 pp. A very rare original Confederate Civil War newspaper printed very late in the Civil War ( after the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomattox), and at a time when most Confederate leaning newspapers had been taken over by Union occupation forces or were forced to close or flee from advancing Union military forces. This Confederate newspaper contains front page headings and long detailed coverage of the fall of Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia to Union forces, marking the end of the Petersburg Campaign, the campaign that directly led to the ends of the Civil War. Very rare to find an actual Confederate Civil War newspaper reporting on the fall of the Confederate capitol city this late in the Civil War.Condition: Disbound, scattered age and toning. A rare issue!
