Description

Western Expansion: Hand-Drawn Covers Sent to Mormon Pioneer. Pair of buff covers with hand-drawn artwork, one addressed to "Mr. Ossian Taylor or any other man" in Diamond Springs, California. The other cover is addressed to "Mr. O. F. Taylor" in Diamond Springs. These are postmarked from Austin, Nevada on August 28th and June 23rd (year unknown), but likely after Nevada gained statehood in October 1864. The ink drawing is quite skilled. Taylor was a "wagon train captain" during the overland trek to Utah prior to the Civil War. We include a 27-page printed transcript of his journal from that trip, taken in April-September 1851.
