Franklin Pierce: Cartoon Featuring the Major Players. 17" x 13" lithograph published by P. Smith of New York in 1852 titled "Pap, Soup, and Chowder." It features Franklin Pierce on horseback approaching the White House, Fillmore lamenting the fact that his government benefits are running out, Greeley complaining about supporting Scott, Winfield Scott promising a slaveholder to support the Fugitive Slave Bill, a slaveholder threatening to withhold his support without a commitment from Scott and Webster consoling Fillmore and recommending some New England clam chowder.Condition: Remnants of mounting hinges on verso; otherwise, excellent.
