Description

William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody: The Notorious Sells Floto Circus Poster. In 1914 Denver Post owner Henry Tammen founded the Sells Floto Circus and sought to promote it by appropriating Buffalo Bill's image and name - without his consent! Not surprisingly Cody did not take this well and threatened Tammen with bodily harm (perhaps the still-to-come redress he referred to in a letter of complaint to his sister Julia, an item also offered in this auction!) Excellent condition with fine original fold lines as issued. Minor area of fading as shown. Nicely custom-framed to 45" x 30.5". From the Collection of the Late Edward C. Gillette.
