Description

John F. Kennedy: Personally-Owned Presidential Seal Cuff-Links. Viola Wise joined the White House staff as a maid in 1939 during the administration of President Franklin Roosevelt and continued working there for over 40 years retiring from White House service in 1981. John Kennedy presented Wise with his ornate set of gold cuff-links as a memento of his appreciation taking them from his shirt and handing them to her saying, "Viola, you probably know some fine man that needs a pair of cuff-links." Embossed with the Presidential Seal on the obverse, his initials are engraved on the reverse. A signed letter on White House stationary details the exchange of the cuff-links, her remembrances baby-sitting "John John", terming him an "ugly" baby! Other joyful times with the Kennedy's and her heartbreak at the time of his assassination. A marvelous letter which she neatly signs in blue ink, "Sincerely, Viola Wise - The White House maid 1939-1981.

Condition: Light expected wear, otherwise, extra fine.
