[Samuel Clemens] Mark Twain: Cabinet Card. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" cabinet card featuring a studio portrait of Samuel Clemens ("Mark Twain") circa 1872, aged 37. Captioned below in print, "Mark Twain," with quotation marks added in period ink. Further inscribed in period ink in the lower margin, "Samuel Langhorne Clemens, b. 1835. American Humorist. Author of 'Roughing It,' etc." A scarce and attractive early photograph of one of America's most celebrated writers.Condition: Somewhat toned with minor edgewear. A few scattered spots of light foxing or staining; minor soiling along the left edge.
