Description
The Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk: A Section of Fabric from the Plane Which Made History on December 17th, 1903. The Kitty Hawk machine was damaged badly in the Dayton flood of 1913. In preparing the plane for display, Orville Wright replaced the original fabric which covered the wings. Wright preserved some of the original cloth and it was part of his estate when he died in 1948. Subsequently small swatches like this one were released by the family. The present example, measuring approximately 1.125" x 1.25" is affixed to a 8.5" x 11" certificate of authenticity signed by Harold S. Miller, co-executor of the estate, and Ivonette Wright Miller, Orville's niece. These evocative relics always inspire spirited bidding when they appear at auction.Condition: The item is housed in an 11.25" x 14" frame. The certificate can be easily removed from the frame if one desired, otherwise appearance is excellent.
