Early New York Police Inspector Archive: Chief Inspector Moses W. Cortright. Fantastic archive of NYPD badges and other pieces belonging to Moses W. Cortright, also know as Mose W. Cartright. Born in 1839, and served during the Civil War with the NY First Mounted Rifles from September 1861 to April 1864, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After the war he served in the NYPD for 42 years, and retired in 1909 attaining the rank of Chief Inspector. He died on May 3, 1916 in New York City.

The archive includes several pieces form his days on the NYPD. Includes Four police badges, one belt buckle, his whistle, night stick and leg shackles, a small lantern, a pocket knife, chain style handcuffs, small metal box with key, what appears to be a sterling silver letter opener (opener tight in the sheath), miniature night stick and wood with cord, and lastly his pocket watch made by Ingersoll Yankee with his initial "C" on the back. Watch is not in working order.

A wonderful archive from a Civil War veteran and high ranking NYPD officer.

Condition: Light wear, overall fine.
