Description

Abraham Lincoln: Dated "Old Abe" Stoneware Jug From Vermont. 12" tall stoneware jug, 1 gallon capacity, of slightly ovoid shape, stamped name of maker: "S. Johns/ Stoneware." Cobalt blue decoration reads: "Lyman Stone/ Waterbury/ Vt/ 1862/ Old Abe Prest." Salt glaze finish. We could locate no reference to the maker, but Stone (1801-1870) served as a Division Superintendent on the Central Vermont Railroad. Great condition with no chips, cracks or other apparent faults. Political stoneware is exceptionally rare. Add the Lincoln connection and you've got something special!
