Description

Cheyenne beaded hide tobacco bag, c. 1850. Including the fringe, this tanned hide bag measures 39". It is thread-sewn and beaded with white, cobalt, yellow, green, and red glass seed beads. All the beading remains intact. Split tongues were artfully sculpted in the bag's open end and a beaded tie is attached at their base. With a couple of minor moisture stains in the tongues and overall darkening in color, this bag is in fine condition. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
