4-Digit 7th Cavalry Custer-Era U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver.
Serial no. 6068 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of barrel marked: - COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. -. Two-line, two-date patent and U.S. stamped to left side of frame. Ainsworth "A" inspector mark to base of barrel, cylinder, triggerguard and backstrap. "P" stamped to base of barrel and cylinder. Smooth walnut one-piece grip, with faint cartouche to each side. Three lines carved to backstrap. Manufactured in 1874. The serial number falls in the range of Custer's 7th Cavalry troops. Accompanied by John A. Kopec letter dated February 16, 2001.

Condition: Good as smoothed and configured. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Some smoothed and re-browned areas. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Action functions. Moderately pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
