James K. Polk: First Message To Both Houses on Silk. 21" x 27" speech on silk titled "President James K. Polk's First Message To Both Houses Of The Congress Of The United States Of America Delivered At The City Of Washington, December 2, 1845". Topics include Expansion and Manifest Destiny, the Oregon Territory, Texas Annexation and Mexico, Tariff Reduction, and an Independent Treasury. The top has an eagle with a banner in its beak reading "E Pluribus Unum" and an ornate geometric blue border. Rare in any medium, but especially in silk.Condition: Several splits at the left edge with staining. Normal fold lines. Fine condition overall. This is the first example we have offered.
