Description
Abraham Lincoln: Rare Dual Portrait Rail Splitter Ribbon. 2 3/8" x 5 1/2" red silk ribbon featuring a bust portrait of Lincoln, titled: "For President, Abraham Lincoln." The lower portion showcases an elaborate pictorial vignette enclosed within an ornate scrollwork frame. At center is a large "AL" monogram, flanked by rail splitter symbolism, including stacked fence rails and an axe. To the right is a male figure beneath a tree, representing Lincoln's widely promoted frontier labor imagery. Beneath the vignette is a partially visible campaign slogan, "Constitution and the Union..." Such design we have never seen before.Condition: Minor fading and toning. Fraying at top and bottom margin, with loss to text at bottom. Small pinhole to the right of Lincoln's portrait. A few small, scattered stains.
