Description

George and Martha Washington: Cased Daguerreotypes. Facing sixth plate Daguerreotypes housed in a brown leather-covered case. Both have white painted highlights. The portraits were painted c. 1796. George Washington painted by James Sharples', and Gibert Stuart's Athenacum portrait of Martha Washington.

The pair of Daguerreotypes are attributed to photographer John L. Grubb of Alexandria, Va., c. mid 19th century.

Condition: Some solarization on Martha towards the bottom. Wear to leather cover and some "give" to the spine.
