Description

President John F. Kennedy's Personal Back Brace. John F. Kennedy's back problems were legendary, and indeed spurred him to use custom-ordered rocking chairs which are typically associated with him. He often wore an elaborate back brace as well, both to relieve pain and to aid his posture in public. Offered here is one of the late President's actual back braces with the most intimate of provenances: subsequent to Kennedy's death, it was given by his mother, Rose, to their family physician in the hopes that it might ease another's suffering. Of course, this could not be accomplished, as each brace is custom-formed to fit its user.

The brace is in excellent condition, although light soiling and wear clearly verify its personal use by the President. A notarized affidavit from the son of the doctor accompanies the lot. Measurements: 14.5" x 13".
