Description

Edwin Booth: Signed Presentation Photo. 9" x 11 ½" albumen photograph of a youthful Edwin Booth, affixed to the original 14 ½" x 17" paper mount with embossed blind stamp of McClees of Philadelphia, inscribed by Booth on the mount: "Edwin Adams Esq. from Edwin Booth". Adams (1834-1877) was a gifted light comedian who also performed the classics. He joined Booth's acting company in 1867 which may have been the occasion for the presentation of this photo. Light toning, restoration to upper left corner, spot of soiling on Booth's hair that tends to blend in; overall, quite nice. The close resemblance between Edwin and his younger brother John Wilkes is most apparent in this portrait.
