Description
[Abraham Lincoln]: Book Signed by Lincoln's Host at Gettysburg. M-196, "Revised Report of the Select Committee Relative to the Soldiers' National Cemetery", Harrisburg, Singerly & Myers, 1865, 212pp. in embossed cloth covers (bumped corners, reinforced spine). The Gettysburg Address appears on page 211. The inside front cover is inscribed: "W. C. Hayward/ November 1865/ From David Wills Esq/ Gettysburg/ Pa". Wills was Lincoln's host at Gettysburg. The "National Anti-Slavery Standard" reported in their November 28, 1863 issue: "After the dedication ceremonies were over the President returned to the residence of Mr. David Wills whose guest he had been since he arrived here."Auction Info
