Description
A Dr. Doolittle story with an original drawing by the author
Hugh Lofting. Doctor Dolittle in the Moon. [New
York]: Frederick A. Stokes Co., [1928].8vo. Publisher's purple cloth decoratively stamped in teal, color pictorial label to front board. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated color frontispiece and in-text illustrations by the author, Hugh Lofting. Original illustrated dust jacket. Custom quarter morocco folding case stamped in gilt, housing an original drawing by Lofting.
FIRST EDITION, WITH AN ORIGINAL DRAWING FROM THE BOOK. With an original ink and pencil drawing by Hugh Lofting, published in the book on page 161 with the caption: "He held them before the lilies."
Condition: Minor edgewear to cloth. Textblock toned, a few stray marks. Dust jacket clipped on all four corners, stained and scuffed, chips and tears with losses to lower margin, open tear with loss to rear panel (approximately 1 x 3/4 inches), tape repairs to verso.
Provenance: Billy Smith (contemporary ink gift inscription to half-title from Rose Turner, dated Christmas 1928).
