Description

Success to America.

George Washington: Liverpool Pitcher. 7.5" pitcher with transfers of George Washington flanked by three goddesses and a cherub bestowing a crown of stars, a wreath labeled "Success to America." under the spout, and a scene showing Washington (we believe) subduing the British lion, gesturing for the red coats to depart our shores, captioned: "By Virtue and Valour, We Have Freed Our Country, Extended Our Commerce and Laid the Foundations of a Great Empire." This seems to be a taunt to the British, saying that not only have you lost the colonies, but we're going to build an empire of our own and give you guys a run for your money! Premature, but prescient! Circa 1795. Mint condition. A beauty!
