Description
"[Space] is essentially nothing... but what occupies it is very exciting."
Walter M. Schirra Fabulous Space Content Autograph Letter with Attached Autograph Note Signed "Wally", three pages, 8.5" x 11", personal letterhead, Rancho Santa Fe, January 11, 1991, to Howard Benedict, executive director of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. This amazing letter was written by Schirra (1923-2007) at the request of the ASF for the purpose of creating literature to be used for future Space Camp curriculum. The letter is divided into two parts where he addresses two of the most common questions asked of astronauts: "My most impressive experience as an astronaut" and "How did space affect you." Attached to this manuscript is a 3.25" x 7.5" note on his personal notepaper, in full: "Howard. Please build my remarks around the enclosed. Loudon Wainwright used a little poetic license as did Tom Wolfe- even I did in 'Schirra's Space' Wally". An amazing letter from one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, an American hero who definitely had the "Right Stuff." Very fine condition with original folds.Included with this lot is a Certificate of Authenticity from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation attesting to its authenticity.
This lot has been consigned by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. The proceeds will benefit this non-profit organization.
