Description

Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown Two-Page EVA Prep Checklist Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan. This lot consists of two pages on heavy cardstock, printed on both sides, dated in print "11-7-72" and 10.5" x 8" each in size, that were flown to the surface of the moon on the LM Challenger. It is a checklist detailing the procedures for Captain Cernan's second (of three) moonwalks, or extra-vehicular activities. This particular EVA took place during their second day on the lunar surface and lasted just over seven and one-half hours. The pair of cards, which were taped together and taped to holed tabs for ease of use, gave the astronauts a step-by-step timeline to prepare for their egress from the lunar module onto the moon's surface. Instructions range from the obvious ("Stow All Loose Items Not Reqd for EVA") to the very technical, and there are some handwritten (by Gene Cernan) notes as well. Captain Cernan has certified and signed each page on the front: "Flown to Lunar Surface Apollo XVII Gene Cernan" and has added "(1 of 2)" and "(2 of 2)", as appropriate. An exciting offering of historical moon-flown material from man's last moon landing. Extremely fine condition.
