Description

Group of Black Powder Cartridges, Bullets, and Loading Tools.

An assorted collection of black powder-era pistol and rifle cartridges, together with Civil War-period and later bullets, and a selection of miscellaneous reloading tools. The grouping includes several dug or relic-condition bullets and cartridge fragments, some of which appear to be exploded or fired examples housed in small display containers, along with various brass and copper-cased cartridges representative of late 19th-century ammunition development.

Of particular note is a wood and brass shotshell loading tool, measuring approximately 6 1/2-inches in length, featuring a turned wooden knob handle and cylindrical brass body. Such implements were used to seat and crimp shot or powder loads into early paper or brass shotgun shells, a practical accessory for both military and civilian black powder shooters. Also included is a nickel-plated powder measure with a wooden handle, dating to the 1890s, illustrating the transition from hand-loaded to more standardized cartridge production methods.

Condition: Overall good to relic condition as presented. Cartridges and bullets display age patina, oxidation, and surface wear consistent with long storage or excavation. The wood and brass loading tool shows attractive aged toning and handling marks, while the powder measure retains partial plating with light wear from use. An evocative and varied representation of 19th-century ammunition and reloading technology.
