University of Iowa Battalion Student Kepi, Circa 1870s.

Blue wool body with bound patent leather bill. Lacking the chinstrap and one eagle button. Brass infantry insignia with a "UI" (University of Iowa) above and "B" (Company B) brass insignia below. Satin lining with Coast & Easley, Iowa City maker's mark in the crown. Lacks the leather sweatband.

Condition: A few small insect holes in the wool body; satin interior frayed, crazing to the leather bill. Generally in good condition.
