Charles DuVal Roberts (1873-1966) was a West Point class of 1897 graduate, commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and was assigned to the 17th Infantry Regiment. During the Spanish-American war he distinguished himself at the Battle of El Caney by rescuing wounded soldiers for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
His Medal of Honor citation reads: "Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines under heavy fire of the enemy." He also served during WWI and was promoted to Brigadier General in 1929. This white light cotton mess dress jacket is named and dated in ink on the inside front lining: "Col. C. D. Roberts / 1928" and additionally marked on the inside rear seam "C.D.R." The jacket is the standard mess dress type of the period, double-breasted with two rows of three eagle buttons. Single star rank insignia are sewn to the lower portion of each sleeve. Sold we a three-ring notebook containing copies of photos, documents and research.

Condition: Very good. The white cotton is dingy from storage but is otherwise sound.
