German Mauser Oberndorf 1906 Gewehr 98 Bolt Action Rifle With Bavarian "EWB" Cartouche.Serial no. 882e, 7.92x57 caliber, 29 ½-inch barrel with roller coaster rear sight and fixed front sight. Blued finish, bolt and receiver in the white. All serial numbers matching including the bolt, receiver, barrel bands, follower, trigger guard, floor plate, butt plate and stock. Left side of the receiver marked with serial number and "Gew.98.". Top of receiver marked "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER A-G / OBERNDORF A/N / 1906". Branded with the "EWB" mark of the Bavarian Einwohnerwehr militia cartouche on the right side of the butt. The EWB was formed after WWI in violation of the Treaty of Versailles and existed until about 1921. Its purpose was defend the Weimar Republic against Communist uprisings. A nice pre-WWI Gew. 98 with an interesting post-war history. No import stamps.
Condition: Very good. Light to moderate wear to blued finish; the white receiver and bolt have a tarnished patina. Stock exhibits light to moderate scratches, dings and dents with some heavier gouging on the right side below the receiver. Lacking rear sling bands. Bright bore.
