Description

WWII British Union Jack Identified to the HMS Dragon (Later Polish ORP Dragon), Fatally Damaged by a German Manned Torpedo Off the Coast of Normandy and Scuttled and Used as Part of Mulberry Harbor.

Silk or synthetic, multipiece construction, 3 ½-inch wide sleeve on the hoist end, approximately 6 x 10-feet. Written faintly in ink near the hoist: "HMS Dragon / NORMANDY / JUNO BEACH".

HMS Dragon was handed over to the Polish Navy in January, 1943. She saw action at the Normand landings as part of Operation Neptune. On the evening of June 6, 1944 she moved to the Juno sector where she bombarded German positions. On July 7, 1944 she was hit by a German Neger manned torpedo and sustained heavy damage and the loss of 11 of her crew. On July 16, 1944 she was decommissioned and towed to Mulberry "B", and scuttled to form part of the artificial breakwater near Courseulles.

Condition: A few short closed tears, scattered soiling, otherwise good condition.
