Description
Colt Single Action Army Skeleton Shoulder Stock, Formerly in the Mel Torme Collection.14 1/2-inches in overall length. Buttplate measures approximately 3 1/2-inches. Brass casting produced in sand. Shoulder stock is mounted on a 19 x 33-inch frame; 4 x 6-inch brass plaque included in frame, along with framed typed letter dated July 29, 1968 [Colt letterhead] from Colt's Patent office addressed to Mel Torme in Beverly Hills, Ca. "Dear Mr. Torme, We have examined you Single Action Army skeleton shoulder stock casting and determined that it is an original. / The brass casting was produced in sand; the sprues and parting lines are indicative of the brass sand-casting process used in the 1880 period. There is no serial number on the stock or any other identifiable or traceable marking, but judging from its appearance and comparing it to a 'finished' original at the Connecticut State Library, we are convinced of its authenticity, / Your stock probably passed through a number of hands after leaving the Colt Factory (which we believe was some time in 1943 when Colt contributed all available scrap for the war effort). / Very truly yours, [signed] Richard H. McMahon / Vice President-Marketing".
Also included is a separate letter from Steve Englert to Nelson Faerber [notarized] stating among other things; "I purchased this fine piece from the Mel Torme collection in June of 1980."
Condition: Fine as presented. In its original raw finish and condition, some verdigris present. Frame with some scuffs and separations. Colt letter needs remounting to overall frame. Nelson A. Faerber Collection.
