Description
U.S. E. Whitney 1853 Percussion Mississippi Rifle.Unserialized, .56 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with hooded front sight and fixed rear sight. Top of barrel stamped: US / JH / VP. Lock marked: N. HAVEN / 1853 and E. WHITNEY / US. Upper tang dated 1853. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels. Two brass barrel bands, triggerguard, hinged patchbox and buttplate. Brass-tipped metal ramrod.
Condition: Fine. Overall showing light handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Aftermarket front sight. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Crisp Action. Bright bore. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
